ELECTROCHEMICAL CONVERSION OF DICHLOROACETIC ACID TO CHLOROACETIC ACID IN A MICROFLUIDIC STACK AND IN A SERIES OF MICROFLUIDIC REACTORS
2015
The electrochemical conversion of dichloroacetic acid to chloracetic acid was performed in three different micro devices: a simple micro fluidic cell; a microfluidic stack equipped with various electrode chambers in series and three micro fluidic cells in series. The electrochemical synthesis of chloracetic acid was performed successfully with high yields and selectivity under a single-pass mode without supporting electrolyte at low cell voltages. An increase of the productivity and of the final concentration of the target product was achieved by using a stack with two or three electrode chambers in series. The utilization of three micro reactors in series open interesting new perspectives,…
Template Electrochemical Growth and Properties of Mo Oxide Nanostructures
2014
This work is aimed at studying the growing process of nanostructures electrodeposited from molybdate aqueous solutions at different pH values into pores of polycarbonate membrane templates. The challenging issue was the opportunity to investigate a rather complex deposition process in a confined ambient, where electrochemical conditions are quite different from those usually established for deposition on a flat substrate. Nanostructures were grown from a bath containing Mo7O246– (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O) at different concentrations (50–100 g/L), at a constant cathodic current density of 2 mA/cm2 (electrodeposition area ∼8 cm2). Nanostructured deposit was characterized by XRD, EDS, Raman, XPS, and …
Ag2 and Ag3 clusters: synthesis, characterization, and interaction with DNA.
2015
Subnanometric samples, containing exclusively Ag2 and Ag3 clusters, were synthesized for the first time by kinetic control using an electrochemical technique without the use of surfactants or capping agents. By combination of thermodynamic and kinetic measurements and theoretical calculations, we show herein that Ag3 clusters interact with DNA through intercalation, inducing significant structural distortion to the DNA. The lifetime of Ag3 clusters in the intercalated position is two to three orders of magnitude longer than for classical organic intercalators, such as ethidium bromide or proflavine. Synthesis of polymer nanogels by electro-Fenton process: investigation of the effect of main operation parameters
2017
Recently, electro-Fenton (EF) process has been shown as a promising, facile, effective, low cost and environmentally-friendly alternative for synthesizing polymer nanogels suitable as biocompatible nanocarriers for emerging biomedical applications. Here, the electrochemically-assisted modification of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP) by EF process was studied to assess the role of key operation parameters for a precise modulation of polymer crosslinking and its functionalization with [sbnd]COOH and succinimide groups. The dimensions of the nanogels, in terms of hydrodynamic radius (Rh) and weight-average molecular weight (Mw), can be tuned up by controlling the electrolysis time, current density…
Electrochemical synthesis of C-glycosides as non-natural mimetics of biologically active oligosaccharides
2012
Natural oligosaccharides inhibitors of heparanase and selectins are emerging as promising drugs for cancer therapy. As an alternative tool to the natural ones, sulfated tri maltose C-C-linked dimers (alfa, alfa alfa, beta and beta, beta STMCs) were prepared by bromo-maltotriose electroreduction on silver cathode,1 followed by sulfation. The presence of an interglycosidic C-C bond makes STMCs less vulnerable to metabolic processing then their O-analogues. For this reason, STMCs have been studied as drug candidates and inhibitors of carbohydrate processing enzymes. Their activity as inhibitor of Pselectin in vivo and in the attenuation of metastasis both on B16-BL6 melanoma cells and on MC- 38 c…
One-step electrochemical synthesis and physico-chemical characterization of CdSe nanotubes
2013
Abstract Stoichiometric CdSe nanotubes (NTs) with a length of ∼700 nm have been successfully grown by one-step electrochemical technique into anodic alumina membranes. Cyclovoltammetric method has been performed using porous anodic alumina as template electrode and an electrochemical bath containing Cd 2+ ions and SeO 2 . The as-prepared NTs have been identified as face-centred-cubic CdSe by XRD, while micro-Raman analysis reveals the typical peaks of nanostructured CdSe. The stoichiometric deposition of CdSe NTs formation is suggested by EDX analysis, with an average atomic percentage of Cd:Se of ∼0.93. Photoelectrochemical measurements reveal that CdSe NTs are photoactive materials with d…
